About BellyUp Savannah
You don't really know a place from its menu. You find out by Bellyin' Up to the table.
BellyUp Savannah covers 233 restaurants and bars across 21 neighborhoods. That includes Savannah, Thunderbolt, the islands and Tybee.
Savannah rewards people who wander. Some of its best rooms are down a back lane, under a hotel or behind a bookcase. So we went looking for those on purpose, and we wrote down how to find each door.
The clearest thing we found in Savannah
Finches Sandwiches and Sundries closed on 11 April 2026. It lost its lease.
We opened its website on 6 October 2026, six months later. The "Order Online" buttons are still there and still lead to a working order page. The site still tells search engines it is a restaurant, with a phone number and an address.
The only hint is one small line: "Monday - Sunday : Closed".
A person skimming that page would place an order. An AI assistant asked for a sandwich shop in Thunderbolt would read the same page and send them.
Finches is not alone. The Ordinary Pub said in May 2026 that it would not reopen, and its site still says "The pub is down but not out!" Bernie's Oyster House left River Street in 2023, and its site still says it is there. Our closed list has every date.
And the one that did it right
The Lady & Sons closed on 31 July 2025, after 36 years. Plenty of visitors still plan a trip around it.
Its old web address now goes straight to a goodbye note that names the last day. Nobody is fooled. That is all a closing takes.
What we did differently in Savannah
We added two kinds of research here that our earlier cities did not have.
- Hidden rooms. We looked for basements, lanes, courtyards and bars tucked inside other businesses. Twenty places on this site now carry a "How to find it" line.
- What locals say. We read a year of local threads, about 190 of them, and counted which places people named. A diner in an old laundromat came out on top.
We also checked every address against the city's own map of the to-go cup zone. 100 of our 233 places are inside it, and each of those pages says so.
How we decide what to publish
Public sources only. We start with the restaurant's own website. Then a named local publication. Then public posts. Nobody's memory of a visit counts, including ours.
A local mention tells us a place exists and that people are going. It does not prove a detail like "dog friendly". For that we still need the place itself or a named source.
Here is where we stand today, in plain numbers.
- 127 places are confirmed open by a dated 2026 source.
- 106 places have a working website with hours, and we could not find anything dated this year to go with it.
You can help with those 106. See the list and tell us what you know. It takes about a minute.
We also keep a list of 66 web addresses we will never link. Some now lead to gambling pages. Some are parked for sale. A few belong to open restaurants whose real site is at a different address.
Why no Savannah restaurant has a MICHELIN star
The MICHELIN Guide does not cover Savannah. In Georgia it covers metro Atlanta and nothing else. So no Savannah restaurant holds a star, and none can. Here is the full story.
What BellyUp Savannah covers
The City of Savannah, plus the places locals treat as part of a Savannah night out: Thunderbolt, Tybee Island and the islands on the way to the beach.
Pooler, Richmond Hill and Port Wentworth are outside. So is everything across the river in South Carolina. They are their own places.
National chains and airport counters are out. Savannah-born groups are in, and we say which room is which.
Why BellyUp Savannah exists
Every platform a restaurant is already on tracks the same few things: where you are, what you serve and what people scored you. None of them track why somebody would choose you.
The courtyard. The basement stairs. The owner. The reason the regulars are regulars.
So we sort those reasons into discovery categories and publish them where any search engine or AI can read them. Then we check whether search and AI can actually see them.
If we have something wrong, tell us. If it is your restaurant, you can claim the profile and correct it for free. We would rather be corrected than be another stale page.
