Hidden Bars and Restaurants in Savannah, and How to Find Each Door

Savannah hides some of its best rooms in basements, back lanes and behind a bookcase. Here is how to find each door.

You can walk past some of the best rooms in Savannah and never know they are there. The old city was built with lanes behind the streets and basements under the shops, and bars moved into both.

Here are the ones we could source, with how to find each door. Every direction below comes from the place itself or from a named local source.

Savannah rooms you reach through a courtyard

Garden Square opened in November 2025 behind 2400 Bull Street. You reach it through a courtyard off 40th Street. At The Rail Pub in City Market, the courtyard is out the back, through the bar.

The American Legion bar is the one locals name first

When someone on Reddit asked for a dive bar near Forsyth Park in 2026, American Legion Post 135 was the runaway answer. A local food site called it the most overlooked dive in town. Bring cash.

One hidden bar looks closed. Mata Hari's, the speakeasy on Lower Factors Walk, is marked closed on two map listings and has had no event listed since December 2025. A local magazine left it out of its April 2026 speakeasy roundup. The city's tourism site still sends people there. We could not confirm the closing date, so check before you go.

Not open yet: a lounge called V was announced for the space under La Vetta on Broughton Street. La Vetta opened in August 2026. We found nothing that shows V has opened.
