Savannah has eleven places smoking meat that we could find. Three of them say which wood they burn. The readers' favorite is not downtown at all.

Sandfly BBQ won the Savannah readers' vote
Sandfly BBQ won Best Barbecue in the 2026 readers' poll. It serves three sauces: a sweet Memphis style, a mustard-based Savannah sauce and a spicy vinegar sauce. Its downtown location in the old Streamliner diner has closed, so go to Ferguson Avenue.
Trick's BBQ has moved twice in two years
Trick's cooked for years out of an old gas station on Bull Street. It moved to West Bay Street in 2024, lost that lease in December 2025, and is now at 1218 Waters Avenue. Older listings send you to the wrong place.
Slow Fire BBQ is building a permanent home
Slow Fire has been a food truck for about three years. Pitmaster Terren Williams is a Savannah native who spent ten years in Dallas. It is setting up in a former gas station at 37th and Habersham.
